Winter, summer, spring and fall, this lip balm recipe has you covered for all. If you suffer from dry, chapped lips, give this DIY project a try. Essential oils can be used for a number of things; this recipe is one of the easiest to accomplish, and will give you a good feel for what’s in store. We think you will truly enjoy this wonderful mixture of essential oils and natural ingredients!

Ingredients:

  • Empty Lip Balm Containers (purchase in bulk from an online retailer)
  • 3 Tbsp. Beeswax
  • 2 Tbsp. Cocoa Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Sunflower Oil
  • 8 Drops of Vitamin E. Oil
  • 12 Drops of Peppermint Essential Oil
  • 2 Drops of Rosemary Essential Oil
  • 1 Large Drop of Lanolin (about the size of a pea, any more than that may cause the balm to taste bitter)

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients except the essential oils in a glass measuring cup
  2. Place in microwave and melt ingredients at 1 minute intervals, stirring in between, until all ingredients have been mixed together thoroughly
  3. Stir in essential oils
  4. Using a glass dropper, transfer molten mixture from measuring cup to empty lip balm containers
  5. Allow to cool overnight
  6. Place tops on lip balm containers
  7. Store in a cool, dark place when not in use

If the mixture cools before all empty lip balm containers are filled, simply place it back in the microwave for 1 minute and repeat the transfer procedure once melted. Be careful as the mixture will be similar to molten candle wax. You may also want to taste test the mixture once melted before transferring into empty lip balm containers. If it needs more flavor, add 1-2 drops of Peppermint essential oil at a time, and retest.
